Framingham Defeats Ice Hockey, 5-3

Framingham State 5, Worcester State 3

Box Score

Auburn, MA --- Framingham State senior forward Joseph Hurley (Charlestown, MA) led the Rams attack as he added his third and fourth goals of the season while upending the host Lancers 5-3 in MASCAC action this evening.

Both of his scores came in the second period, his first of which put the visitors up 3-2. Worcester State senior forward Mark Rintel (Oakland Gardens, NY) answered with his second goal of the period knotting the game at 3-3 with a short-handed tally. It then took 29 seconds for Hurley to skate the length of the ice and put another through the posts in what proved to be the game winner at 16:52. Framingham junior defenseman Blair Nickerson (Beverly, MA) aided Hurley in both scores.

In what seemed to be the theme of the night, Worcester opened up the scoring with junior right wing Billy O’Neill (Strafford, PA) netting his second goal of the season with a little help from Rintel and freshmen defenseman Tim Bowman (Moorpark, CA). Framingham quickly responded with markers from senior forward Matt Lally (Natick, MA) and sophomore forward Nicholas Jackson (Las Vegas, NV). Hurley opened his stellar night with an assist to Jackson.

The second period proved to be more of the same when Rintel notched a quick one that lit up the siren for the Lancers at 1:35. After a series of penalties from both squads, Hurley got hot and the Rams took advantage of the extra man. Rintel tallied two in tonight’s battle which puts him at five for the season leading the team.

Framingham State added some insurance with another marker in the third on an unassisted marker by senior Trevor Johnson (Anchorage, AK) with 1:34 left in regulation.

Junior keeper Terrence Sullivan (Shirley, MA) made 33 stops – including 19 in a scoreless third period – to post his first victory of the season. Freshman Zach Hansen (Dexter, MI), fell to 1-1 as he scooped up 34 saves for the Lancers.

There were 20 combined penalties in the contest as both defenses had their work cut out for them as the two squads went 1-for-9 each in power play opportunities.

The Lancers (2-3, 0-2 MASCAC) take some time off as their next game is on December 1 against Stonehill at 7 PM at the Foxboro Sports Center on Route 1. Framingham (1-3-2, 1-2 MASCAC) will entertain UMass Boston at 7 PM on Tuesday.
