Ice Hockey Earns First Win In Triumph Over Framingham State

Framingham, MA --- The Worcester State University ice hockey team scored three goals in the second period and held off a late third period surge by the Framingham State University Rams to pick up a 4-3 victory tonight in MASCAC ice hockey action at Framingham's Loring Arena. 

With the win the Lancers improve to 1-1-2 on the year and 1-0 in the MASCAC, while the loss drops the Rams to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in conference play.            

Worcester State University took a 1-0 lead in the first period as freshman Brendan Galley (Colorado Springs, CO) scored a power play goal off assists from Tim D'Orazio (Jamieson, PA) and John Cahalane (Tewksbury, MA) at the 12:08 mark. 

The Lancers extended their lead to 3-0 in the opening minutes of the second period with two goals twenty seconds apart. Cahalane scored at 2:52 off D'Orazio's second assist of the game and D'Orazio scored unassisted at 3:12. 

The Rams cut into the Lancers lead halfway through the period when freshman Corey Dinwiddie (Santa Clarita, CA) scored a power play goal off assists from freshmen Bo Driscoll (Chelmsford, MA) and Matt Margolis (Raleigh, NC).

The Lancers pushed the lead back to three goals when Tyson Cox (Boise, ID) scored what proved to be the game winner with just 1:07 remaining in the second period.

The Rams made things interesting in the third period as Miressi scored twice in the frame.  His first of the period came just 3:30 in off assists from Peter Baldwin (Port Williams, Nova Scotia) and Dinwiddie to pull the Rams back within two goals. His second came with just 1:26 remaining in the game to make it a one goal game, but the Rams were not able to score the tying mark after they pulled their goaltender and skated with the man advantage for the final 1:04.

Worcester State held a 26-19 edge in shots in the first two halves before the Rams outshot the 13-7 in the final stanza.

WSU junior Bryan Kalczynski (Tonawanda, NY) and freshman Nick Cafrelli (San Jose, CA) each recorded 29 saves apiece as Kalczynski records his first win as a Lancer.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday as they travel to UMass Boston at 7 PM while the Worcester State travels to Plymouth on Tuesday at 7 PM.
