UMass Dartmouth Blanks Ice Hockey, 3-0

Auburn, MA --- Senior Joe Hill (Newburyport, MA) tallied a pair of third-period goals to help lead UMass Dartmouth to a 3-0 triumph over Worcester State this evening in men's MASCAC ice hockey action this evening.

With the win the Corsairs improve to 10-5-1 (6-3-1 MASCAC) as they are now tied for first in the conference with Plymouth State with 13 points. Worcester State falls to 7-5-3 and 4-4-1 in the league with the setback.

The game remained gridlocked after two periods as UMass Dartmouth held a slim 23-19 advantage in shots. To that point in the contest WSU had held off a trio of power plays while the visitors killed a pair with the extra-man edge.

At the midway point in the final stanza, Hill finally broke the shutout at 10:52 with his sixth marker of the season on assists from classmate Jason Stahl (Londonderry, NH) and sophomore Dan Dempsey (Norwell, MA). The Corsairs then tacked on another quick goal 25 seconds later on a score by fourth-year Todd Barelson (Pepperell, MA).

With time winding down in the period, the Lancers opted to pull their goalie for five men on the ice due to a misconduct penalty that removed a man off the ice for both sides. WSU fired four of their nine shots in the period over the next minute, but UMass Dartmouth would compete their scoring as they hill notched the third goal with the empty net.

Senior Colin Tracey (Medford, MA) registered 28 stops for the Corsairs in his first career shutout. Junior Bryan Kalczynksi (Tonawanda, MA) turned aside 31 shots for the Lancers in the loss.

Both squads return to action on Tuesday evening. Worcester State travels to Fitchburg State for a 4:30 face-off while UMD takes on Southern New Hampshire at 7:30 PM in a non-conference affair.
