Martin, Cahalane Lead Ice Hockey To 6-1 Triumph Over Southern New Hampshire

Hooksett, NH --- Freshman Curtis Martin (Okotoks, Alberta) notched two goals and senior John Cahalane (Tewksbury, MA) added the game-winning goal to help lead Worcester State to a 6-1 victory over Southern New Hampshire in the PAL Cup consolation game this afternoon.

The Penmen (1-7-1) scored the only goal of the first period on the fourth marker of the season by sophomore Tyler Pascucci (N. Reading, MA) at the 11:45 mark.

First-year Taylor Laneville (Edmonds, Washington) helped the Lancers (2-3-2) respond 1:16 into the period on his first collegiate goal.

Cahalane then tacked on the eventual match-clinching goal five minutes later on a short-handed tally with some help by classmate Nick Asterito (Philadelphia, PA).

Shots through the first two frames were dead-even at 18-18, but in the third it was all Worcester State as they enjoyed a 9-1 lead in the category.

Asterito would put WSU up 3-1 with 5:54 on the clock and then the Lancers would break the game open with three goals a span of four minutes. Martin pitched in with the first two goals while sophomore Ryan Quirk (Brockton, MA) chipped in with the final marker. The Blue and Gold took advantage of a major penalty to net the final two tallies.

Senior Bryan Kalczynski (Tonawanda, NY) evened out his season record to 2-2-2 stopping 18 shots as second-year Tyler Holske (Attleboro, MA) made 21 saves in the cage.

Kalzynski was honored on the All-Tournament Team for turning aside 42 of the 44 shots he saw this weekend.

The Lancers will entertain Framingham State in MASCAC action on Tuesday at 5:30 PM while Southern New Hampshire takes a break before hosting Assumption next Saturday at 7:30 in a Northeast 10 affair.
