Framingham State Bests Ice Hockey, 5-3

Auburn, MA --- Sophomore Daniel Miressi (Monroe, CT) had one goal and three assists to help Framingham State earn their first victory of the season for a 5-3 triumph against Worcester State in MASCAC men's ice hockey action this evening at Horgan Memorial Rink.

WSU freshman Stephen Rock (Tulsa, OK) opened the contest's scoring at the 11:15 mark of the first period getting assists from classmate Nathan Stanley (Boise, ID) and sophomore Derek Serbon (Crown Point, IN).

The Rams (1-4-1, 1-2-1 MASCAC) tied the game up 1-1 with 56 seconds left when junior Ben Pacific (Marlboro, MA) finished off a loose puck in front of the net.

WSU started off the second period strong when Tim D'Orazio (Jamison, PA) gave the hosts the 2-1 advantage at the 4:34 mark when he scored off his own rebound.

Framingham State promptly responded just over two minutes later when senior Tom Manning (Rockland, MA) knocked in the equalizer.

Miressi tacked on an insurance goal for the Rams with 1:17 remaining in the stanza putting FSU ahead 3-2 at the second intermission.

The Blue and Gold (2-4-2, 0-3-1 MASCAC) tied the game up 3-3 at the 1:24 mark on a marker by Serborn, before freshman Ryan McDonald (Anchorage, AK) netted the game-winner with 5:40 off the clock with some help from classmate Brendan McCarron (Millbury, MA) and Miressi.

The Blue and Gold looked as if they had tied the game 4-4 on a power play midway through the third period, but the goal was disallowed as a result of the puck being kicked in by the Lancers.

Taking advantage of an empty net, senior Jon Vaillancourt (La Valle, WI) lobbed in the final blow to help FSU earn the 5-3 win with 38 seconds left in the contest.

Rams sophomore goaltender Nicholas Cafrelli (San Jose, CA) made 29 saves while WSU senior Bryan Kalczynski (Tonawanda, MN) pushed aside 33 shots.

The Lancers had trouble with the extra man advantage going 0-for-6 on the night while Framingham State went 1-for-3 on the power-play. FSU held the 38-32 edge in shots on goal – including a 20-11 lead in the second period.

With goals tonight Serbon and D'Orazio now share the team lead for markers with four apiece. Pacific, Manning and Vaillancourt each netted their first tallies of the campaign while tonight's first star Miressi has a team-best nine points (three goals – six assists).

Both teams will host their next opponents this weekend.  Worcester State will take on Plymouth State in a MASCAC game at 4:30 on Saturday while the Rams will play Stonehill in a non-conference battle on Sunday at 7:20 PM.
