Ice Hockey Posts 7-2 Triumph Over Framingham State

 

Framingham, MA --- Highlighted by freshman Cody Brier (Marlboro, MA) who finished with a goal and an assist, seven different Worcester State players scored en route to a 7-2 victory over Framingham State in MASCAC men's ice hockey action this evening.

The Lancers (3-6, 1-3 MASCAC) got on the board with a pair of early markers that were scored 62 seconds apart by Brier and junior Ryan Quirk (Brockton, MA).

Framingham State (1-5, 0-4 MASAC) got on the board to cut into the lead at the 9:01 mark when junior Daniel Miressi (Monroe, CT) netted his team-best seventh of the campaign with some help from sophomore Ryan McDonald (Anchorage, AK) and classmate Dylan Cosford (Windsor, Ontario). 

But the Blue and Gold answered right back 1:19 ticks later on the first goal of the season by junior Derek Serbon (Crown Point, IN).

The Rams didn't go away as they took advantage of a power play just before the end of the opening stanza when McDonald made the score 3-2 as Cosford and Miressi both assisted on the play.

In the second, the Lancers scored the only marker of the frame with an insurance goal by freshman Conor Matsen (LaGrange, KY) just 5:24 into the period.

With the two goal advantage, the Lancers offense exploded for three more goals in the final frame to put the game away - with two coming by way with the extra man edge.

Sophomore Stephen Rock (Tulsa, OK) got the scoring started at the 2:37 mark before first-year Joe White (Wonder Lake, IL) chipped in with another tally less than two minutes later. The contests final goal came with 8:30 mark on the first goal of the season by second-year Brenton Dyok (Rocklin, CA).

Worcester State enjoyed a 32-26 lead in shots on goal - including a 22-14 edge in the last two periods.

Freshman Salvatore Tecci (Franklin, MA) earned the winning decision with 24 stops. Framingham State junior Herbert Kyles (Overland Park, KS) was tagged with the setback in 45 minutes of action as he collected 13 saves.

Sophomore Cody Osburn (Fair Oaks, CA) contributed a career-best three helpers in the contest on the first goal and then two more in the last period. He now has a team-leading seven assists.

Worcester State continues their season with a 2 PM match-up against Plymouth State on Saturday while Framingham State hosts Assumption at 7:30.
