Ice Hockey Stymied On The Road At Plymouth State

Plymouth, NH --- Plymouth State sophomore Dan Dupell (Collegeville, PA/Port Huron Fighting Falcons) scored two goals and junior goalie Gordon Ceasar (Oak Park, CA/Rochester Stars) made 26 saves to help lift Plymouth State to a 5-1 victory over Worcester State in MASCAC men's ice hockey action at the Hanaway Rink.

PSU is unbeaten in its last four games (3-0-1), improving to 3-2-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the MASCAC. Worcester State drops its second straight and falls to 2-3-2 overall and 1-2-1 in conference play.

Dupell potted his first two goals of the season while sophomore teammates Mike Economos (Crystal Lake, IL/Corpus Christi Ice Rays) and Ian McGilvrey (Omaha, NB/Middlesex Islanders) added a goal and an assist for the winners.

McGilvrey scored the only goal of the first period, converting a 2-on-1 with Economos and snapping a shot through the goalie's pad from the left side. The Lancers nearly tied the score with a minute to go in the period but a deflection by sophomore Alex DeWitz (Oronoco, MI/Helena Bighorns) bounced off the post.

Economos doubled the Panther led two minutes into the second period, finishing off a nice crossing pass from junior Andrew Wigg (Lantz, Nova Scotia/Yarmouth Mariners) and flipping it into an open net. Dupell made it 3-0 six minutes later when he put in his own rebound.

Senior Zac Sarig (Reading, PA/Valley Jr Warrios) recorded his first goal of the campaign with a slap shot from the top of the circle to push the margin to 4-0 three minutes into the third period. Dupell added his second marker of the game at 7:09, set up by sophomore Ryan Callahan (Londonderry, NH/Middlesex Islanders)

Freshman Brian Fahey (Hudson, MA/Boston Jr Bruins) broke up the shutout for the visitors, finishing off a 3-on-2 with his second of the season, assisted by sophomore Alex Taddeo (Franklin, MA/Boston Jr Rangers) and senior Taylor Laneville (Edmonds, WA/Helena Bighorns).

Plymouth State led in shots (37-26), but attempts on net were even in the final two stanzas (21-21). PSU scored once in four tries with the extra man edge, while the Lancers were 0-for-4.

Ceasar moved to 3-1-1 in the victory while junior Salvatore Tecci (Franklin, MA/Long Beach Bombers) stopped 25 shots in the setback. Freshman Tyler Fallica (Coram, NY/Ogden Mustangs) played 19:56, making six saves in the third period.

Worcester State will play again next Saturday against Becker at 7 PM in the opener of the City Cup at the New England Sports Center while Plymouth State hosts Framingham State on Thursday, December 4 in a MASCAC affair at 7:40.
