Ice Hockey Turned Away By Westfield State, 6-1

Westfield, MA --- Westfield State senior PJ McCadden (Mount Sinai, NY/East Shore Kings) and sophomore Maxime Richard (Trois-Rivieres, Quebec City/Amherst Ramblers) both notched a pair of tallies each as they both aided the Owls to a 6-1 victory over Worcester State in MASCAC men's ice hockey action this evening at Amelia Park Arena.

After the Owls (7-2, 4-1 MASCAC) killed a pair of power play chances by the Lancers (2-6-2, 1-3-1 MASCAC), Richards put his team ahead 1-0 with 1:02 left in the opening frame.

Richard then registered his team-best seventh of the campaign which put Westfield State up 2-0, just 1:27 into the second period.

After a sequence of four penalties that saw three different Worcester State players sit inside the box midway through the stanza, McCadden helped his squad score at full strength off a rebound with 14:51 off the clock.

McCadden found the back of the net again 90 seconds later, beating junior Salvatore Tecci (Franklin, MA/Long Beach Bombers) on a breakaway for the 4-0 margin after 40 minutes of play.

Sophomore Jackson Leef (Fort Wayne, IN/Texas Tornado) and junior Kyllian Kirkwood (Copper Cliff, Ontario/Wellington Dukes) potted the final markers for Westfield State over the first four minutes of the third.

Senior Rich Ledy (Marquette, MI/Soo Thunderbirds) broke up the shutout with his fourth of the season to tie for the team-lead as he had some help on the play scored with 3:05 remaining in regulation from senior Andrew Bates (Marblehead, MA/Boston Jr Bruins) and sophomore Colin Edwards (Winchester, MA/Junior Mariners).

Westfield State senior Ian Perrier (Whitehorse, Yukon/Dryden Ice Dogs) saw his record improve to 6-2 while he turned aside 39 of the 40 shots he saw between the pipes.

Tecci (1-5-1) played for the first 40 minutes and he collected 22 saves while junior Drew Case (Plano, TX/Northern Cyclones) stopped seven shots on goal in the final period.

The Owls were 2-for-7 on power plays. The Lancers did not score on any of their seven attempts with the extra man advantage.

For the eighth time in 10 games this season, Worcester State finished with the leading margin in shots (40-35), which included a 16-12 edge in the first and a 15-9 advantage in the third.

Both squads take on MASCAC opponents at home this Saturday. The Lancers host Salem State at Hart Center in a 5 PM matchup while Westfield State takes on Plymouth State in a 5:35 face-off.
