Mike Moran Named Joe Concannon Award Semifinalist

BOSTON, Mass. - For the second consecutive season, Worcester State University men's ice hockey senior Mike Moran (Milford, Mass.) has been named one of 25 semifinalists for the Joe Concannon Award. The announcement came on Thursday morning from the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston.

The Concannon Award, presented annually to the best American-born NCAA Division II/III college hockey player in New England, was established in 2001 shortly after the passing of the longtime writer for The Boston Globe, who had a great passion for the game of college hockey while always advocating strongly for amateur athletics.

Moran is one of just three players from the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference to be named a semifinalist for the award on Thursday, joined by Fitchburg State's Nick DiNicola and Plymouth State's Michael Kovach. Despite only playing in 12 games this season due to injury, Moran has tallied 11 goals and nine assists for 20 points on the year.

The Gridiron Club will announce the finalists and winner of the 19th Joe Concannon Award in March, following league playoffs and before the start of the NCAA D-III Frozen Four. The award will be presented to the winner at the New England College Hockey Writers’ Dinner in April.
