Worcester State Falls to AMCATs in Woo Cup Consolation Game

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Men's ice hockey team faced off against Anna Maria College in the consolation game of the Woo Cup hosted this year by Nichols College. The Lancers fell in the first round 7-5 to Assumption College on Friday. The Lancers looked to grab their first win of the season but fell shy with another 12-goal game on the young season.

Anna Maria started the scoring early in the first period, knocking in their first of 10 goals just over three minutes into the game putting the Lancers on the defensive early. The Lancers were able to cut down the lead for Anna Maria to just one after two quick goals four minutes apart in the first period. The first saw Eid send a strong shot past the AMCATs goalie off passes from Grongstad and Clougherty to get Worcester State on the board with a score of 3-1. Drevitch added a goal after corralling a pass from Staif to get within one goal. Just 18 seconds later the Anna Maria sent their fourth goal of the game past Anthony Shrum to end the first period with a 4-2 score. The Lancers were unable to put another puck past Anna Maria's Aidan Richardson, while the AMCATS had the Lancers number on defense finding the back of the net an additional six times in the match.

First year Shane Prifrel (Inver Grove Heights, MN) led the team with 5 shots in the game while Shrum, sophomore Jakob Kubick (Uherske Hradiste, Czech Republic) and sophomore Wyatt Freidlander (Lake Placid, NY) combined for 31 saves on the night. While Eid and Drevitch each scored their first goals of the season.

The Lancers (0-2-0, 0-0-0) are back in action on Thursday November 3, when they head to UMass-Dartmouth for their first MASCAC conference match of the season. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30pm.
