Max Roth Named MASCAC 2023 Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year

After completing his collegiate career at Worcester State, Max Roth of the Lancers men's ice hockey team is the 2023 MASCAC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year which is voted on by the eight Athletics Directors around the conference.

The graduate student from Wilmette, Illinois, was a member of the Lancers hockey team as a defender throughout his college career, amassing 15 goals and 18 assists for 33 points. He was named to the MASCAC All-Conference in 2022 as a defender. This year, he helped the Lancers to a record-setting season with 12 league wins and a spot in the tournament title game. In the summer of 2022, he competed for Team USA in the Maccabiah Games, served as a captain and earned the Lancers' Team MVP award in both 2022 and 23. 

Off the ice, Roth received his business administration bachelor's degree Summa Cum Laude with a 3.913 GPA in 2022 while recently graduating with his masters in management, finishing with a 4.0. He was named to the MASCAC All-Academic Team four years straight, Worcester State Dean's List every semester, top GPA on the hockey team in 2022 and 23 and the WSU Margaret "Peg" Nugent Male Scholar-Athlete in 2022. He was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma National College Student Athlete Honor Society in 2021. The American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) recognized his an All-American Scholar in 2018 as well for his academic achievements. 

When he wasn't competing or in the classroom, he was active with the Worcester State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Special Olympics volunteer for four years, participated as one-on-one Special Olympics mentor for four years and served as the Vice President of the WSU Athlete Mentor program in 2022. When he was home during the summer, he was an Assistant Coach at Ice Hockey Camps in Chicago with Delaney Hockey School.

Roth completed two internships during his collegiate career. First, he worked with a private equity firm, Invision Capital, in Chicago. More recently, he was an intern for Forward Financial Services out of Worcester. 

The MASCAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year has been awarded annually since 1980 to a student-athlete who has excelled in both the classroom and field of play while maintaining at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average through their last year of athletic eligibility.
