Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Men’s ice Hockey team has been selected to finish third in the MASCAC Pre-season poll as voted on by the conference coaches. The Lancers, who had a MASCAC record breaking season, with 12 conference wins and a trip to the conference finals, look to continue their success of last season with a MASCAC Championship. The Lancers will be led by senior captain and All-Conference selection Mikey Wilson (Alexandria, VA) who recorded 13 goals and 13 assists last season. Helping to lead the team back to the championship will be fellow captain’s graduate student Brendan Ronan (Saugus, MA) and junior Cody Porcello (Melrose, MA).
Grabbing the top spot in the poll was 2023 MASCAC Champions Plymouth State who collected 49 points and seven of the first-place votes. In second place was Fitchburg State who took home the last first place vote and 40 points.
Landing in third with 36 points is Worcester State. The Lancers were 12-5-1 at the end of the MASCAC schedule in 2022-23. Wilson returns to the team after registering 26 points with four power play goals over 27 starts to earn a spot on the All-Conference squad last season.
Falling into fourth place behind the Lancers was UMass-Dartmouth with 27 points, with Salem State and Westfield State close behind finishing with 26 and 25 points each. The bottom two saw Framingham State claiming 11 points while newcomers to the MASCAC, MCLA, ended with 10 points.
