How it Happened:
In tonight's matchup between the Worcester State Lancers and the Post University Eagles, the first period was a heated one in the first game back from the Thanksgiving break. The Blue and Gold came out ready to play as they played a very dominant first period, making contact with bodies on and off the glass, generating multiple scoring opportunities as they were tiring out the Eagles line and keeping pressure on their zone. The Lancers were able to put 15 shots to Post's six in the opening 20 minutes of action. The shot margin was a big tell of the first period as Worcester was able to notch the first goal of the game coming from sophomore Brady Carpenter (Peabody, MA), on a quick assist from Max Hussar, to send the puck into the top right corner to put Worcester up 1-0 going into the second.
The second period would be largely uneventful outside of each team adding some penalties to their box score on the night. The Eagles came out with a much different energy than in the first, becoming more physical and trying to put more shots up while the Lancers would match the Posts' energy and physicality as they looked to hold on to the one score lead that was achieved in the first. Both teams would try to set the pace of play and they would have various levels of success that would lead to a pretty balanced period. Neither team would score as we headed into the 3rd period leaving the Lancers with a continued 1-0 advantage.
Third period would see the intensity amp up for both teams as the Eagles were looking to flip the game on its head by tying the game in the 3rd, while the Lancers were determined to keep this lead. Both teams would leave it on the ice as they used all the energy at their disposal. Post would be much more aggressive offensively but this would be their ultimate demise as the Lancers would cut deep into Post territory taking a beautiful shot that would stretch the lead to two with about 10 minutes to go in the game as senior Brigham Neuhold (Edmond, OK) would collect the rebounded and dished attempts off of fellow seniors Martin Dlugolinsky (Stara Lubovna, Slovakia) and Cody Porcello (Melrose, MA). Post would attempt to make some deep runs into Lancers territory but would be unable to capitalize as the Lancers played with confidence and determination winning the contest 2-0.
Senior Jakub Kubik (Uherske Hradiste, Czech Republic) would have a lights out performance in net for the shutout, claiming 25 saves in the victory for Worcester.
