Lancers Taken Down in March with Vikings

Worcester, MA- After nearly a week since their last action, the Worcester State Men's Ice Hockey team (6-7-1, 3-4-1) is looking to get back to .500 tonight as they journey to Salem State to take on the Vikings.

How it Happened: 

 

The first period saw the Lancers be aggressive off the bat but the Vikings offense would put up two goals early on for a quick 2-0 lead. Late in the first period Worcester got their first goal of the game with a five hole shot from sophomore forward Brady Carpenter (Peabody, MA) to cut the lead by one with 3:51 in the first. Senior goalie Jakub Kubik (Uherske Hradiste, Czech Republic) would finish with 12 saves but gave up a late goal with 31 seconds in the first for the Lancers to end the period down 3-1.

 

 

The Lancers looked to began the second on the attack but Worcester did not have a quick solution for the Vikings offense. The Vikings would put up 3 goals in 3 minutes to find the Lancers trailing 6-1. After another goal by Salem, the Lancers would finally put another goal on the board as senior forward Matthew Kowal (Monson, MA) would put the lancers down 7-2. The Vikings would add one more before the second intermission to go head by six with 20 minutes of action for Worcester to counter attack.

 

The Lancers would put up some good defense to begin the third trying to spark some offense and finish the game on a high note. Worcester would put up a goal off senior defenseman Christian Phinney (Draper, Utah) putting up the third goal for the Lancers as they worked to eat into the Vikings lead. Salem would put the game back at six with one final goal to put the game out of reach as Lancers would fall 9-3.

 

What's Next:

 

The Lancers (6-8-1, 3-5-1) have just a day of practice before they journey to Rivier in a pivotal rematch on the season Saturday, January 25th at 7:30pm. In the last meeting between the two teams, the Raiders claimed the win in a shootout determination on Lancer home ice.
