Schenecdady, N.Y. --- The Rensselaer men's soccer team claimed the Union Men's Soccer Classic title on Saturday with a 3-0 win over Worcester State at College Park on the campus of Union College. The Red Hawks won both games during the two day event, outscoring their opponents 11-1, to improve to 4-0.  RPI has now won back-to-back tournaments, having captured their own last week.  Worcester State falls to 2-1-1.

Despite a scoreless first half, RPI controlled most of the possessions and finally broke through at the 48:34 mark when junior midfielder Michael Long (Hopkinton, NH) found the back of the net off a turnover.

Just over 10 minutes later (59:21), Red Hawks sophomore midfielder Benjamin Poser (Scotts Valley, CA) connected on a rebound goal out of a crowd in front.

Playing with a 2-0 advantage RPI continued to pressure and scored again at 74:28 on a one-time shot by Long, who was fed by freshmen midfielder Matt Koliopouis (Franklin, MA).

RPI outshot Worcester State, 20-6, including 9-1 on goal. The Red Hawks also took 10 corners as compared to the Lancers' two.

Rensselaer sophomore goalkeeper Alex Penney (Northport, NY) earned the shutout, turning aside one shot.  At the other end, sophomore Daniel Hansen (Worcester, MA) made five saves, including four in the second half.

The Red Hawks have now won seven straight games, dating back to last season when they won the year-end ECAC Tournament.
