Worcester, MA --- Junior Rob O’Doherty (Shrewsbury, MA) registered a pair of goals to help lead Framingham State to a 4-0 triumph over Worcester State this morning in MASCAC soccer action at Coughlin Stadium.

With the win the Rams improve to 3-6-2 overall (2-1 MASCAC) while WSC slips to 1-8-2 and 0-1-2 in the conference.

The Rams started things off with four quick shots ten minutes into the first half, but they received no production from the outburst. The Lancers also had a pair of shots by senior Miguel Vidal (N. Grafton, MA) in the 16th minute, but junior keeper Greg Halle (Beverly, MA) stopped both of them.

Both teams then traded possessions until sophomore Steve Lesiczka (Haverhill, MA) kicked a soft middle pass to third-year Jason Silva (Northbridge, MA) who sent it in for his third marker of the season in the 24th minute.

Over the remaining 21 minutes both teams had opportunities to score, but the game remained stalemated until the intermission. Only Framingham State had a 3-2 edge on shots on goal during that stretch.

The Rams came onto the field after the break and took control of the pace of the contest. FSC fired four shots to keep the pressure on during the first 14 minutes of the second stanza and then O’Doherty finally gave Framingham State the 2-0 lead in the 60th minute on an helper by Scott Faria (Fall River, MA).

O’Doherty netted his second tally seven minutes later as he scored on a rebounded shot in the 67th minute.

After both scores, Framingham State continued to press and Brunno Goncalves (Framingham, MA) capped off the scoring for the Rams as he notched ’s his first goal of the season in the 80th minute.

Worcester State did everything they could to break the shutout and their best chance came on an attempt by Mark Johnson (Woburn, MA) in the 85th, but his shot was too high.

FSC ended with a 25-16 advantage in shots (16-7 on goal) and a 3-2 edge in corners.

Lancer sophomore keeper Evan Wilga (Dudley, MA) ended the contest with 12 saves for his third double-figure save total while Halle collected seven stops for the Rams.

Both teams will play on Wednesday at 7 PM. Worcester State continues their home stand when they entertain Western Connecticut on while Framingham State heads to regionally ranked Amherst.
