Men's Soccer Handed 2-0 Setback By UMass Dartmouth

North Dartmouth, MA --- Freshman forwards Victor Ferreira (St. Miguel, Portugal) and Brenton Beaufils (Charlestown, MA) scored in the second half to give the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's soccer team a 2-0 victory over visiting Worcester State in a non-conference match at the UMass Dartmouth Athletic Complex Wednesday.

The Corsairs improved to 8-3-2 with the victory, while the Blue and Gold dropped to 3-11 with the defeat.

Ferreira broke a scoreless tie when he scored unassisted in the 67th minute and Beaufils scored on an unassisted marker 20 minutes later to account for the final margin.

The Corsairs outshot the Lancers, 15-5 Sophomore goalkeeper Mike Phelan (Carver, MA/Carver HS) made two saves for UMD, while senior Fred Groos (Floral Park, NY) made five for WSU.

Both teams will play conference opponents on Saturday. Worcester State entertains Salem State at 4 o'clock while UMass Dartmouth heads to Eastern Connecticut for a 1 PM contest.
