Wilga Named MASCAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week

Buzzards Bay, MA --- Worcester State senior goalkeeper Evan Wilga has been selected as this week's MASCAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week for helping backstop the Lancers to a 2-0 week. For Wilga this is his second career weekly honor.

Wilga, a product of Dudley, MA, stopped all 13 shots that he saw on the week as he recorded a pair of shutouts between the pipes for WSU. He would start off by collecting eight saves in a 1-0 triumph over Trinity before he capped off the week by turning aside five shots in a scoreless double-overtime draw – including three in the extra session.

Through the first five games of the season Wilga is tied for first in the MASCAC with three shutouts, he is second in goals against average (0.63), third in save percentage (.862) and fifth in saves with 25 stops.

In 37 career games, Wilga has 12 shutouts, which are third all-time and with 261 saves he is ten away from being second all-time among goalies that have played at least 24 games.

Wilga's past conference weekly honor included making nine saves in a 1-0 shutout that went double-overtime over Salem State in the final week of the regular season on November 4, 2008 as a freshman.

Worcester State (2-2-1) will play twice in the next week. On Wednesday, WSU heads to Keene State for a 6 PM kick-off before they entertain Framingham State at 10 AM on Saturday.
