Whitson Selected MASCAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week

Westfield, MA --- Senior Brendan Whitson (Auburn, MA) has been recognized as this week's MASCAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week for his efforts in a victory over Westfield State this past Friday.

Whitson netted a natural hat-trick in a 4-1 triumph over the Owls to help the Lancers claim their first regular season league title in eight seasons.

On the campaign, Whitson is currently second in the MASCAC in goals (10) while he is tied with teammate Alex Wolfel (Unionville, CT) for the second-most points in the eight-team conference (22). In five conference games Whitson has eight markers and a pair of helpers en route to a 5-0-1 record in league play.

Within the last week with 19 goals and seven assists to his credit in 28 career games, Whitson has moved into a tie with Sal Bazzano (1980-82) with 45 points for 11th on the all-time scoring list. He is just 14 away from cracking the top 10.

Whitson claimed Co-MASCAC Player of the Week laurels on October 14 for pacing WSU with seven points in a 4-1 win over Mass Maritime and for collecting the lone goal in a 2-1 setback against regionally-ranked Western New England.

The Blue and Gold (8-3-4) close out their regular-season slate with a 10 AM meeting with Fitchburg State for a chance at their first unbeaten slate in MASCAC play since 2005.
