Whitson Selected ECAC Division III New England All-Star

Centerville, MA --- Senior Brendan Whitson (Auburn, MA) has been named to the ECAC Division III New England All-Star Second-team as announced by Coordinator of Administration – New Media & Championships Geoff Lopes this past week.

Whitson, a two-time all-conference pick and MASCAC Player of the Year, led the conference with 17 goals and 33 points while he finished the campaign with five assists. Among leaders in the NCAA Division III, Whitson was 27th in goals per game (0.82) and he was fourth in New England with 1.94 points per contest.

It was during the conference play that Whitson made his mark with nine goals and two helpers – including a trio for match-clinching markers – en route to helping the Lancers claim their first MASCAC Regular Season title since 2005 with an unbeaten 6-0-1 mark.

Whitson hangs up his cleats with a remarkable 23 goals and 10 assists in 34 games to finish ninth on Worcester State's all-time scoring list. In just two seasons, his tally output tied for the 10th most goals in a single career.

After falling in the conference tournament finals to Bridgewater State, Whitson was a force in the squads run during the ECAC Division III New England Tournament.

In a 2-1 second-half comeback victory over #6 Mount Ida in the quarterfinals, Whitson potted one goal and dished out the game-winning assist before he chipped in with one marker and one helper in a 3-2 setback to second-seeded Lasell in the ECAC semifinals.

Whitson was the lone player to earn a nod from the MASCAC on the ECAC New England All-Star Team that was selected in a vote by coaches and administrators throughout the New England region. He was one of 10 forwards distinguished on the 29-member list.

The Lancers, under the direction of fourth-year head coach Jason Willis, ended the campaign at 12-5-4 and participated in their second ECAC Division III Tournament in the last three seasons.
