Men's Soccer Stymied By Westfield State In 1-0 Defeat

Westfield, MA --- Westfield State junior Zach Horn (Carver, MA) recorded the game-winning tally with 4:29 remaining in regulation as he helped lead the Owls to a 1-0 victory over Worcester State in MASCAC men's soccer action.

With the win Westfield State improves to 3-10-2 while the Lancers fall to 5-9-2. Both squads now sport idential 2-3-1 records in conference play with one game left in league action next weekend.

As time wound down in the contest, freshman Connor Gilbert (Melrose, MA) found Horn on the outside of the box in transition as Horn fired it past the netminder for his third of the campaign.

The best chance for Worcester State to score came 10 minutes earlier as freshman Etjon Rapi (Worcester, MA/Doherty) drew Westfield State's keeper out of the net with a high shot.

The ricochet went right to sophomore Zachary Sindoni (Haverhill, MA), who nearly gave the Lancers the lead, however, Westfield State freshman Connor Townsend (Wilmington, MA) was right there and he helped the Owls log a key team save to preserve the scoreless game.

After outshooting the hosts 4-3 in the first 45 minutes of the contest, the Lancers controlled play, but came up empty with a 13-3 margin in attempts in the second half.

Senior Keith Hewey (Chicopee, MA) turned aside five shots - including four in the second stanza while senior Emil Dedo (Korca, Albania) was not called upon to make a save.

Worcester State closes out their regular season with a 10 AM meeting at home on "Senior Day" while the Owls entertain Western Connecticut at 7 PM on Wednesday.
