Lancers Rally Past Becker College for 4-1 Win

LEICESTER, Mass. – After falling behind 1-0 early in the game, the Worcester State University Lancers rallied past the Becker College Hawks and came away with a 4-1 victory Thursday afternoon at Alumni Field.

The Hawks of Becker are now 1-14-1 while the Lancers of Worcester State improve to 8-5.

Becker freshman midfielder Calvin Kamuhangi (Kampala, Uganda) put the hosts ahead in the 25th minute, catching the opposing keeper out of position on a breakaway for his second goal of the year as the Hawks went up 1-0. The visitors answered with an equalizer by junior midfielder Jacob Jess (Douglas, Mass.) who scored off a rebound in the 36th minute, tying it up for the Lancers at 1-1. That score would hold up going into halftime.

In the second half, Worcester State advanced again and again, but were repeatedly turned away by the stingy Becker defense. The floodgates finally opened for the Lancers late in the period when they scored three goals in span of three minutes. In the 74th minute, Worcester State senior midfielder George Siotis (Oxford, Mass.) found the back of the net. Less than a minute and a half later, the Lancers scored the insurance goal from junior back Matthew Dent (Ludlow, Mass.). Less than 1:30 after that, Siotis scored off a breakaway to put the Lancers ahead 4-1 with less than fifteen minutes left in the game.

Becker sophomore goalkeeper Devin Ramos (Warwick, R.I.) posted 12 saves in goal for the Hawks. As of press time, Ramos was averaging 9.44 saves per game, which would rank him fifth in the nation. Worcester State freshman goalkeeper Henri Guilmette (Franklin, Mass.) finished with two stops. The Lancers outshot the Hawks, 27-4.

Up next for the Hawks of Becker, the team heads to Elms College to face the Blazers next Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Lancers of Worcester State travel to Salem State this Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. game.
