Middletown, CT --- Senior Mark Johnson (Woburn,
MA) tied for second in the 200 meter dash (23.04) while he placed
third in the 400 (51.24) to help pace the Lancers this past
Saturday at the Cardinal Invitational hosted by Wesleyan
University.
The non-scoring meet featured competition from around New England
and New York representing Division II and III and a couple of local
community colleges.
With his time in the 400, Johnson has now qualified for the
Division III New England Regionals in four events this season,
which includes the 55, the 200 and the long jump.
The Lancers were also led by freshman Ian Fields
who finished ninth in the 400 while he tied his season best at
6-01.25 for the third time this season. Sophomore Robert Stahelski
(S. Deerfield, MA) rounded out the track runners as he notched
eighth in the 600 (1.27.71).
In the field, first-year Nick Capone (Billerica,
MA) threw 12th (36-03.50) in the shot put while sophomore
Joseph Naikelis (Millbury, MA) tossed 17th
(28-05.00) in the 35-lb weight throw. Junior Matt
Leeds (Bellingham, MA) landed 20th (19-00.75) for his
first meet this season.
Worcester State will compete again this Saturday at Wheaton
College.
