Norton, MA --- Senior Mark Johnson (Woburn, MA)
qualified for the ECAC’s while junior James
Macera (Holden, MA) set the standard for the Division III
New England’s as the Men’s Indoor Track and Field team
placed third at the Wheaton Invitational this past Saturday.
The hosting Lyons beat out UMass-Dartmouth for the top spot at the
meet with 119 points while the Corsairs notched 118 points followed
by the Lancers 65 team points.
Johnson ran a 22.78 in the 200 meter dash for first place and
missed qualifying for the All-New England’s by 3/100ths of a
second while he also notched second in the long jump (20-60.25) and
sixth in the 55 (6.99) with an impressive preliminary time of
6.79.
Macera took the top spot in the weight throw with a distance of
47-00.25 to advance to the postseason while he also finished in
third in the shot put (39.05.75).
In the field, freshman Nicholas Capone (Billerica,
MA) brought home first in the shot put (40-09.50) while classmate
Nathan Hawkins (Westminster, MA) placed fourth in
the weight throw (34-02.00) and fifth in the shot put
(35-05.00).
First-year James Goyette (Millbury, MA) leaped
third in the triple jump (39-01.00) while finishing tenth in the
long jump (17-11.50).
Freshman Ian Fields (Shrewsbury, MA) placed second
in the 400 with a time of 51.16 while sophomore Robert
Stahelski (S. Deerfield, MA) finished 10th in the 800
(2:07.80) and 12th in the 200 (24.94) to round out the top
finishers for Worcester State.
The Lancers will have one final tune up next week at the Smith
Invitational before they head to the MASCAC/New England Alliance
Championship meet in two weeks.
