Northampton, MA --- Sophomore teammates Nate
Starling (Braintree, MA) and Ian Fields
(Shrewsbury, MA) each had solid meets to help lead the men’s
indoor track and field team at the Smith Winter Invitational this
afternoon.
Starling took first in the 55 meter hurdles (8.08) and second in
the 55 meter dash (6.58) as he qualified for the All-New England
meet in the hurdles and the New England Regional’s in the
55.
Fields had a good showing in the 200 (23.81) and the 400 (52.95) as
he placed second in both events.
Senior captain Matt Leeds (Bellingham, MA) tallied
third in the long jump (20-11.75) to qualify for the DIII’s
while freshman Tim Mazeika (Millbury, MA) captured
an individual title in the 1000 (2:53.42).
Freshman teammates Alex Droby (Uxbridge, MA) and
Greg Babiec (Worcester, MA/Doherty) tallied third
(2:04.71) and eighth (2:11.92) in the 800, respectively, while
classmate Jon Parella (Wilmington, MA) registered
sixth in the 600 (1:30.33).
In the field, sophomore Nick Capone (Billerica,
MA) tossed fourth in the shot put (41-00.50) while freshman
Harrison McCann (Rutland, MA) added eighth in the
weight throw (34-11).
In relay action the 4x400 relay team finished second overall with a
time of 3:35.85.
Worcester State is back on the track next week at the Harvard
Invitational as they wrap up their December schedule.
