Men's Indoor Track Takes Third At MASCAC Championships

Gorham, ME --- Senior RJ Stahelski (S. Deerfield, MA) highlighted five top finishes for the men's indoor track & field team as he timed 1:23.96 in the 600 meter run to eclipse his own school record in the event and qualify for the Division III New England Championships.

The Lancers tallied 93 points for third place as the meet hosted by Southern Maine while Westfield State won the meet with 219. The men's team also placed sixth out of 10 teams in the New England Alliance standings with 45.5 points.

Sophomore Todd Paquin (Pelham, NH) recorded first in the long jump (6.71 meters) to join the list of ECAC Divisin III qualifiers while first-year Andrew Johnson (Thompson, CT) cleared 1.81 meters for a top place in the high jump.

First-year Devlin Crawford (Randolph, MA) sprinted to first in the 400 (51.16) before he and Stahelski along with freshmen teammates Kevin Maciel (Tewksbury, MA) and Ramses Rafael (Lawrence, MA) teamed to take home gold in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:28.13.

Paquin and the 4x400 relay squad were both runners-up in the Alliance as they broke the school record in the 4x400 meter relay. The previous mark which was set at was held by Stahelski, Ian Fields, Chris Mancuco and current assisstant coach Mark Johnson at the Division III Indoor's at MIT (3:29.32).

Paquin would also finish in fifth in the 55 (6.75), Crawford placed fifth in the 200 (23.74) and Rafael added fifth in the 400 (52.94).

Rookie Brian Espinosa (Rehoboth, MA) also added a second-place finish in the long jump (6.46m) to qualify for the DIII New England Championships next weekend at Springfield College while he also placed fifth in the triple jump (11.99m).

In the field sophomore Harrison McCann (Rutland, MA) tossed third in the weight throw (15.02m) as junior Nick Capone (Billerica, MA) placed fifth in the shot put. Sophomore Andrew Garcia (Brea, CA) notched fourth in the pole vault.

Sophomore Julio Arzu (Lynn, MA) timed 6.73 in the 55 for fourth place as classmate Kerry Sabanty (Stoughton, MA) crossed the line in fifth in the 600 (1:28.60). Second-year Tim Mazeika (Millbury, MA) recorded fifth in the 800 (2:05.80) before Neil Reilly (Oxford, MA) came in fifth in the 1,000 (2:46.32).
