Starling, Mazeika Pace Men's Indoor Track At Alden Invitational

Providence, RI --- Junior Nate Starling (Braintree, MA) was third overall in the 55 meter dash with an Open New England qualifying time of 7.96 while classmate Tim Mazeika (Millbury, MA) shattered the previous school mark in the 1,000 (2:39.54) to help lead Worcester State at the Alden Invitational hosted by Brown.

The first meet of the season for the Lancers was primarily against Division I competition.

Sophomore Andrew Johnson (Thompson, CT) placed first in the high jump (1.98 meters/6-5.75 ft) with an ECAC height as junior Harrison McCann (Paxton, MA) had a first place toss in the weight throw (15.11m/49-6.75) to stamp his ticket to the Division III New England meet.

Other Division III New England qualifiers included third-year Todd Paquin (Pelham, NH) in the 55 meters (6.75 – 8th) and Long Jump (6.40m/21-6 – 3rd) as McCann also chalked up fourth in the shot put (13.48m/44-2.50).

By taking home sixth place, Mazeika reset the previous mark of 2:41.92 that was set by Chris Mancuso at Wesleyan University on January 27, 2007.

Freshman Duy Truong (Worcester, MA/Doherty) also posted personal best jumps of second in the long jump (6.60m/21-7.75), fourth in the triple jump (12.92m/42-4.50) as well as ninth in the 55 meter hurdles (8.46).

Senior Nick Capone (Billerica, MA) notched fifth in the shot put (13.27m) while he would place third in the weight throw (13.86m/43-5.50) followed by Sebastian Bilenschuk (Mansfield, MA) in fourth (13.76m/54-1.75), senior Nathan Hawkins (Westminster, MA) in fifth (13.48m/44-2.50) and sophomore Jason Sliwoski (Leicester, MA) in sixth (12.26m/40-2.50).

First-year Stephen Gannon (Mansfield, MA) clocked 12th in the 300 (37.54) as junior Luke Curtis (Dudley, MA) added 14th in the 55 (6.81). Third-year Jon Parrella (Wilmington, MA) and sophomore Kevin Maciel (Tewksbury, MA) and junior Kerry Sabanty (Stoughton, MA) all placed 13th (1:29.43), 14th (1:29.59) and 16th (1:29.78), respectively.

Sophomore Randy Joseph-Jones (Beverly, MA) rounded out the Lancer competitors with seventh in the triple jump (12.15m/39-10.25) and 17th in the 55 (6.89).

Next Saturday WSU will compete at the Harvard Open.
