MASCAC Men's Indoor Track Weekly Release

Cambridge, MA --- Junior Tim Mazeika (Millbury, MA) was the runner-up with a time of 1:58.67 in the 800 meters and classmate Jon Parrella (Wilmington, MA) broke the school record in the 500 (1:07.95) as they both helped lead Worcester State at the non-scoring Harvard Open on Saturday afternoon.

The meet featured competition from all three divisions of institutions in New England and several club teams.

With his time Mazieka qualified for the Division III New England's as Parrella's new mark broke the old standard that was previously held by John Delguidace and set on December, 4 1993.

Freshman Duy Truong (Worcester, MA/Doherty) impressed with seventh in the long jump (6.72) to qualify for the ECAC Division III Championships before adding 18th in the 60 meter hurdles (8.94).

Sophomore Andrew Johnson (Thompson, CT) was also third in the high jump (1.95m) as junior Nate Starling (Braintree, MA) added eighth in the 60 meter hurdles (8.60).

First-year Stephen Gannon (Mansfield, MA) had a solid day as he timed eighth in the 400 (51.21) and notched 11th in the 200 (23:07) to stamp his ticket for the DIII New England's in both events.

Junior Todd Paquin (Pelham, NH) tacked on 11th in the long jump (6.50m/21-3.75), 13th in the 200 (23.16) and 17th in the 60 (7.26). Paquin's time in the 200 was good enough to add his name to the list of DIII New England qualifiers.

Third-year Harrison McCann (Rutland, MA) paced the throwers with a toss of eighth in the weight throw (15.55m/51-0) to qualify for the ECACs.

Parrella, Paquin, Gannon and sophomore Kevin Maciel (Tewksbury, MA) combined for a time of 3:32.08 in the 4x400 yard relay in seventh place as the other team that was comprised of Mazieka, sophomore classmates Ramses Rafael (Lawrence, MA) and Steve Fleming (Ludlow, MA) and freshman Connor O'Neill (Dudley, MA) clocked 3:38.48 in 13th.

The Lancers will compete again next semester at the Tufts Snowflake Invitational on Saturday, January 14.
