Parrella, Gannon Propel Men's Track To Fourth At UNH Invitational

 

Durham, NH --- Freshman Stephen Gannon (Mansfield, MA) and junior Jon Parrella (Wilmington, MA) each captured the top spot in their respective events to help lead Worcester State men's indoor track & field team to fourth place at the four-team UNH Invitational.

The host Wildcats earned first with 192 points followed by Stonehill (170), Holy Cross (126) and the Blue and Gold (103).

Gannon sprinted to first in the 400 meters (52.38) and fifth in the 200 (24.11) while Parrella added nine points with his finish in the 500 (1:08.52).

The throwers also had a solid day as senior Nick Capone (Bellingham, MA) threw second in the shot put (14.48m/47-06.25) before junior Harrison McCann (Rutland, MA) recorded third in the weight throw (14.93m/48-11.75) and fifth in the shot put (13.58m/44-06.75).

Junior Todd Paquin (Pelham, NH) was the runner-up in the long jump (6.49m/21-03.50) and fourth in the 55 (6.75) as freshman Duy Truong (Worcester, MA/Doherty) tallied third in the long jump (6.32m/20-09), fifth in the triple jump (12.86m/42-02.25) and seventh in the 55 meter hurdles (8.29).

Sophomore Ramses Rafael (Lawrence, MA) also placed fourth in the 400 (54.50) while junior Nate Starling (Braintree, MA) took seventh in the 55 (6.82) and freshman Shaun Corum (Billerica, MA) was eighth in the 200 (24.46).

Fourth-year Nathan Hawkins (Westminster, MA) and junior Sebastian Bilenschuk (Mansfield, MA) each finished fourth (14.70m/48.02.75) and fifth (14.61m/47-11.25), respectively in the weight throw as freshman Robert White (Ludlow, MA) was seventh in the shot put (12.65m/41-06).

The field was rounded out by sophomore Andrew Johnson (Thompson, CT) who leaped fifth in the long jump (1.90m/6-02.75) and freshman Daniel Ross who was sixth in the same event (1.80m/5-10.75).

Next week select Lancers will compete at the Terrier Invitational at Boston University and as the rest of the squad will participate in the MIT Invitational.
