Men's Indoor Track Notches Second Place At MASCAC Championships

Gorham, ME --- Junior Todd Paquin (Pelham, NH) placed first in the long jump (6.72m/22-00.75), 55 meters (6.57), and 200 (23.11) to help Worcester State finish in second overall in the MASCAC Championships and fourth place in the New England Alliance this evening at Southern Maine.  For his efforts, Paquin was named the Co-MASCAC Runner of the Week and MASCAC Field Athlete of the Week.

Westfield State captured first place in the MASCAC posting a score of 188 while the Lancers finished 12 points behind with 167. WSU also tallied 76.5 points in the New England Alliance standings for their highest-ever point total.

The WSU 4x400 relay team of junior Jon Parrella (Wilmington, MA) along with sophomores Ramses Rafael (Lawrence, MA) and Kevin Maciel (Tewksbury, MA) and freshman Stephen Gannon (Mansfield, MA) took home the top time in the in the Alliance with a time of 3:26.89.

Freshman Duy Truong (Worcester, MA/Doherty) had a solid day posting three-second place finishes in the long jump (6.55m/21-6), triple jump (13.12m/43-00.50) and 55 meter hurdles (8:09) as he was also fifth in the 55 (6.73). 

Paquin and Truong both distinguished themselves as their finishes in the long jump, the 55 and the 55 meter hurdles were third overall in their respective Alliance events.

Gannon also placed second in both the 200 and 400 with times of 23.35 and 51.28, respectively. Parrella placed third in the 400 (51.67) before Rafael added third in the 200 (23.35) and fourth in the 400 (52.22). Maciel also had a time of fourth in the 200 (23.37).

Junior Tim Mazeika (Millbury, MA) finished in second place in the 800 with a time of 1:58.43 as classmate Kerry Sabanty (Stoughton, MA) recorded third in the 600 (1:26.36).

Sophomore Jason Sliwoski (Leicester, MA) came in third in the 55 meter hurdles (8.34).

The field was also propelled by sophomore Andrew Johnson (Thompson, CT) who was second in the high jump (1.93m/6-04) and junior Harrison McCann (Rutland, MA) finished third in the weight throw (16.40m/53-09.75). Both distances and heights were good for fourth the Alliance event standings. Sophomore Matthew Begley (Foxboro, MA) also placed fifth in the shot put (13.99m/45-10.75) to qualify for the Division III New England Championships next week.

Junior Andrew Garcia (Brea, CA) was third in the pole vault (3.70m/11-09) while freshman Daniel Ross (Foxboro, MA) placed fourth by clearing 1.86 meters in the high jump (6-1.25).

Next week select Lancers will compete at the Division III New England Championships hosted by Springfield College.
