Men's Indoor Track Places Fourth At Tufts Invitational

 

Medford, MA --- Sophomore Duy Troung (Worcester, MA/Doherty) posted four top six finishes – including first in the long jump (21-5.75/6.55 meters) – to help lead the Worcester State men's track team to fourth at the Tufts Invitational this afternoon.

Troung highlighted a strong 88.5 point performance for the Blue and Gold that was also underscored by third in the 60 meters (7.20), fourth in the 60 meter hurdles (8.82) and sixth in the triple jump (39-5.25/12.02m).

Junior Ramses Rafael (Lawrence, MA) placed second overall in the 400 (51.75) followed by senior Jon Parrella (Wilmington, MA) who was right behind in third (51.79).

Fourth-year Luke Curtis (Dudley, MA), freshman Jerome Drane (Uxbridge, MA) and second-year Kevin Conant (E. Longmeadow, MA) each finished fourth (7.22), fifth (7.24) and sixth (7.43) in the 60 meters, respectively. Drane also was the top finisher in the 200 with a fifth-place time of 23.36.

Senior Tim Mazeika (Millbury, MA) stamped his ticket for the Division III New England Championships with fifth in the 800 (1:59.94) before he helped anchor the 4x800 relay team fifth (8:27.98). On the relay team were senior Kerry Sabanty (Stoughton, MA), junior Connor O'Neill (Dudley, MA) and sophomore Patrick Bova (Princeton, MA).

Junior Andrew Johnson (Thompson, CT) cleared fourth in the high jump (6-3/1.91m).

Next week the Lancers will travel south to compete at the Wheaton Invitational. During the duration of today's meet, members of the WSU men's track team wore green ribbons to honor the shooting victims in the Newtown, Connecticut shooting.
