WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State University's junior Marcus Vieira (Peabody, Mass.) has been named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Field Athlete of the Week for earning his first-ever All-American status on Friday (Mar. 9) in the weight throw.

"It's been a pretty special season for Marcus," commented throws coach, Shawn McCabe.  "For him to have to sit out last year as the 16th person in the country and then to come out this year and accomplish all that he has is just a testimony to all the hard work, focus, and energy he puts into perfecting his craft."

Vieira finished seventh place with a top throw of 18.73m (61' 5.5") at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships to earn the All-American honors.

"It been a pleasure to watch him week in and week out go after his goals this indoor season," said McCabe. "This will act as motivation to push him through the upcoming outdoor season and hopefully help him build and continue the year that he has and end it on a high note."
