Men's Outdoor Track Claims 2011 Corsair Classic Title

N. Dartmouth, MA --- Freshman Kevin Maciel (Tewksbury, MA) highlighted six individual first place performances with a sprint of 56.44 in the 400 meter hurdles to qualify for the ECACs as he helped lead the Worcester State men's track and field team to the 2011 Corsair Classic title on Saturday, hosted by UMass Dartmouth.
 
The Lancers scored 161 points, while the hosting Corsairs finished in second with 131 points, followed by Roger Williams (114), Bridgewater State (91) and Mass Maritime (71).
 
Other top finishes included senior RJ Stahelski (S. Deerfield, MA) in the 400 meters (49.80), freshman Devlin Crawford (Randolph, MA) in the 800 (2:00.86), first-year Andrew Johnson (Thompson, CT) in the high jump (1.89 meters), sophomore Andrew Garcia (Brea, CA) in the pole vault (3.66m) and second year Harrison McCann (Rutland, MA) who qualified for the Division III New England's in the hammer (46.87).
 
Sophomore Todd Paquin (Pelham, NH) added his name to the list of ECAC qualifiers in the long jump by claiming second place (6.81m) while freshman Luke Curtis (Dudley, MA) added second in the 100 meters as Stahelski tallied third in the 200 (23.18). Paquin was also fourth in the 200 (23.40) as freshman Ramses Rafael (Lawrence, MA) added ninth in the 400 (53.18) and Maciel placed ninth in the 100 (11.79).
 
In relay action, the 4x100 meter relay team of Curtis, Paquin, freshman Randy Jones-Joseph (Beverly, MA) and sophomore Julio Arzu (Lynn, MA) clocked first with a time of 43.54 while the 4x400 meter relay team of Crawford, Maciel, Rafael and Stahelski followed suit with the best finish (3:25.86).

Jones-Joseph was also sixth in the triple jump (11.96m), eighth in the 100 (11.77), ninth in the 200 (23.92). Sophomore Jon Parrella (Wilmington, MA) recorded fourth in the 400 meter hurdles (59.60).

The distance group was paced by first-year Neil Reilly (Oxford, MA), who placed fifth in the 800 (2:05.89) and seventh in the 1,500 (4:19.72). Freshman Pat Daley (Millbury, MA) was sixth in the 5,000 (17:15.77) and sophomore Tim Mazeika (Millbury, MA) finished seventh in the 3000 meter steeplechase (10:59.28).

In addition to his outstanding performance in the hammer, McCann was fifth in the shot put (12.62m) and 10th in the discus (34.22m) while classmate Sebastian Bilenschuk (Mansfield, MA) placed fifth in the hammer (40.27m) and ninth in the discus (34.68m).

Sophomore Connor Greene (Blackstone, MA) finished fourth overall in the javelin (49.48m) as junior Nick Capone (Billerica, MA) notched eighth in the shot put (12.23m) and 15th in the javelin (39.49m).

Second-year Shawn McCabe (Mansfield, MA) registered ninth in the shot put (11.72m) and freshman Aaron Correia (Fall River, MA) claimed 12th in the javelin (41.61m).

The Lancers will compete again next week in Cambridge at MIT's Steinbrenner Field.
