Men’s Outdoor Track Finishes Fifth Out of 19 Teams At Silfen Invitational

New London, MA --- Sophomore Todd Paquin (Pelham, NH) was third in the 200 meters (23.63) and fifth in the 100 meters (11.65) to help pace Worcester State to fifth place with 62 points at the Silfen Invitational hosted by Connecticut College.

Coast Guard won the meet with 141 points, followed by UMass Dartmouth (71), the hosting Camels (72.5) and Rhode Island College (70).

Heading into the week of the MASCAC Championships this coming Saturday, the Lancers bested Mass Maritime (7th, 52 points), Bridgewater State (11th, 28 points) and Fitchburg State (12th, 25 points).

There were four third place finishes which included senior RJ Stahelski (S. Deerfield, MA) in the 400 (51.11), freshman Kevin Maciel (Tewksbury, MA) in the 400 meter hurdles (57.61), sophomore Tim Mazeika (Millbury, MA) in the 3k steeplechase (10:23.07), and Harrison McCann in the shot put (12.86 meters).

The 4x100 meter relay team that included Paquin, sophomore Julio Arzu (Lynn, MA), freshman Luke Curtis (Dudley, MA) and classmate Randy Joseph-Jones (Beverly, MA) timed second overall with a time of 46.02 while the 4x400 meter relay squad of Maciel, Stahelski, freshman Devlin Crawford (Randolph, MA) and teammate Ramses Rafael (Lawrence, MA) clocked third place (3:29.05).

Rafael added fourth in the 200 (23.68) and seventh in the 400 (52.44) as Curtis sprinted to 10th in the 100 (11.94). Sophomore Jon Parrella (Wilmington, MA) and classmate Kerry Sabanty (Stoughton, MA) notched seventh (1:00.14) and eighth (1:01.02), respectively, in the 400 meter hurdles and Joseph-Jones clocked 11th in the 200 (24.26) and 13th in the 100 (12:02).

Crawford notched 21st in the 800 (2:05.01) and first-year Neil Reilly (Oxford, MA) rounded out the competitors for WSU on the track with 25th in the 1,500 (4:26.29).

McCann was also 15th in the hammer (35.15m) while junior Nick Capone (Billerica, MA) was eighth in the shot put (12.23m) and 22nd in the javelin (31.29m). Freshman Brendan Chaban (Leominster, MA) scored points with sixth in the javelin (36.59m) while Josh Saunders wasn't far behind in ninth in the same event (36.59m).
