Ten Individuals Qualify For Division III New England's At Holy Cross Meet

Worcester, MA --- Sophomore Harrison McCann (Rutland, MA) tossed sixth in the shot put (13.55 meters) and seventh in the hammer throw (42.77 meters) to qualify for the Division III New England's to help lead Worcester State to fourth place at this afternoon's Holy Cross Invitational. McCann was one of ten individual athletes to qualify for the postseason.

The Lancers scored 113 team points, just 23 away from Holy Cross' total of 136, while the University of Rhode Island won the meet with 217.

Second-year Todd Paquin (Pelham, NH) was the lone first-place finisher as he improved his distance in the long jump (6.59m) while freshman Devlin Crawford (Randolph, MA) and classmate Kevin Maciel (Tewksbury, MA) both hit All-Open New England standards in the 400 meters (second – 49.50) and 400 meter hurdles (third – 55.81), respectively.

Other Division III New England qualifiers included sophomore Julio Arzu (Lynn, MA) in the 100 (third -11.37), first-year Ramses Rafael (Lawrence, MA) in the 400 (fifth – 51.09), rookie Randy Joseph-Jones (Beverly, MA) in the 100 (fifth – 11:39), Crawford in the 200 (sixth – 22.90) and sophomore Jon Parrella (Wilmington, MA) in the 400 meter hurdles (eighth – 58:10).

In addition to their outstanding finishes above, Joseph-Jones was fourth in the triple jump (12.35m) and Rafael was seventh in the 200 (23:03). Sophomore Tim Mazeika (Millbury, MA) and freshman Neil Reilly (Oxford, MA) both added personal best times with 15th (1:59.54) and 20th (2:01.13) in the 800, respectively.

In the field, second-year Sebastian Bilenshuk (Mansfield, MA) had a throw of 42.27 meters in the discus for fifth while McCann's distance in the hammer was also an ECAC standard. Freshman Steve Fleming (Ludlow, MA) cleared ninth in the pole vault (3.50m).

In relay action the 4x100 "B" team clocked 43.68 while the 4x400 "A" team timed 3:26.50. The 4x100 "A" squad added fifth with a time of 43.71 as the 4x400 "B" team was sixth overall (3:45.55).

The Lancers will compete again this Saturday at Fitchburg State at the MASCAC/New England Alliance Championships.
