Men's Track Captures Five Events At Worcester City Meet

 

Worcester State Ranked Sixth In USTFCCCA Week 1 Regional Composite Index

Worcester, MA --- Fitchburg State senior Chris Kibler (Bath, ME) placed first in the 5,000, 1,500 and 800 meter runs as the only triple winner at this afternoon's non-scoring Worcester City Meet held at John Coughlin Field. 

Kibler ran a 15:45.45 time in the 5k while pacing the field with a 4.04.42 in the 1,500.  His first place 800 mark was 1:59.84.

WPI captured six event victories including four who punched tickets to the DIII New England Championships.  Freshman Ben Altshuler (Ellenville, NY) won the triple jump (12.96m/42-06.25) and classmate Joey Collins (Standish, ME) captured the 400 meters (50.21).  Junior Josh Brodin (Mansfield, MA) placed first in the 10,000 meter run (32.59.53) as sophomore Tim Forrest (Madison, CT) won the 110-meter hurdles. 

Engineers senior Brian Goodman (Londonville, NY) also earned first in the 3k steeplechase with a time of 10.39.60 and freshman Nate Martel (Standish, ME) threw a distance of 13.27m/43-06.60 in winning the shot put. 

The Lancers were led by sophomore Kevin Maciel (Tewsksbury, MA) who won the 400-meter hurdles (56.30) and junior Luke Curtis (Dudley, MA) as he claimed the 100 meters with a time of 11.38.  Both marks qualified the pair to DIII New England's

In addition, first-year Terrence Gibson (Rockland, MA) placed first in the 200 meters with a DIII New England qualifying time of 22.69.  

The Lancers also had three second place finishes against a trio of top unattached heights and distances.  Junior Harrison McCann (Rutland, MA) in the discus (38.89m/127-07), sophomore Andrew Johnson (Thompson, CT) in the high jump (1.86m/6-01.25) and freshman Duy Truong (Worcester, MA/Doherty) in the long jump (6.52m/21-04.75).  Truong and Johnson both qualified for DIII New England with their marks. 

The WSU 4x100 relay team of freshman classmates Shaun Corum (Billerica, MA), Kevin Conant (E. Longmeadow, MA), Stephen Gannon (Mansfield, MA) and Matthew Alley (Milford, MA) placed first with a time of 43.77. 

The Boynton Hillers 4x400 relay squad of Forrest, and freshman teammates Nick Aleles (Tappan, NY), Eric Eoff (Rexford, NY), and Kirk Murphy (Swansea, MA) won the meet's final event (3:33.05). 

Becker also had representation at todays meet as the 4x100 meter squad of first-year teammates CJ Bostik (Jacksonville, FL), Kyle Gregg (Charlotte, NC), James Lewis (Sharon Park, PA) and Asante Harris (Charlotte, NC) timed 45.46.

For the two events held on Friday at Holy Cross, Crusaders senior Chase Bradford (W. Bridgewater, MA) won the javelin with a throw of 58.15m/190-9.25 and McCann placed first in the hammer throw with a distance of 47.22m/154-11.
