Men's Outdoor Track Places Second At Fitchburg State Invitational


Fitchburg, MA --- Sophomore Kevin Maciel (Tewksbury, MA) placed first in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 56.25 to help lead Worcester State to second overall at the Fitchburg State Invitational this afternoon.
 
Worcester State scored 134 points which was just off 44 points of WPIs score of 178.
 
The 4x400 and 4x800 meter relay teams took home first while the 4x100 squad finished as the runner-up.
 
4x400 meter relay team was comprised of Maciel, juniors Kerry Sabanty (Stoughton, MA) and Tim Mazeika (Millbury, MA) along with freshman Patrick Bova (Princeton, MA) who ran a time of 3:36.00 as the 4x100 relay of sophomore Ramses Rafael (Lawrence, MA) and first-year teammates Matthew Alley (Milford, MA), Kevin Conant (E. Longmeadow, MA) and Shaun Corum (Billerica, MA) sprinted to a finish of 43.28.
 
The 4x800 team of senior Eric Thulin (Millbuy, MA), junior Conor O'Neill (Dudley, MA), sophomore Zachary Creeden (Billerica, MA) and freshman Adam Pepin (Paxton, MA) ran a time of 8:55.50.
 
Freshman Duy Truong (Worcester, MA/Doherty) was right behind Maciel with a Division III Championship time in the 400 meter hurdles of 57.37 in second.
 
Rafael had a collegiate best split of 50.70 in the 400 while Sabanty placed third in the 800 with a time of 2:00.92.
 
Other notable finishes included sophomore Matthew Begley (E. Bridgewater, MA) who placed second in the shot put (14.24m/46-08.25), sixth in the discus (37.83m/124-01) and seventh in the hammer (45.91m/150-07).

Junior Harrison McCann (Rutland, MA) was also third with a personal-best toss in the hammer (49.37m/162-0) before he added fourth in the discus (38.26m/125-06).

Next week the Lancers will compete at the MASCAC/Alliance Championships hosted by Westfield State on Saturday.
