Men's Outdoor Track Ties For 19th At Open New England Championships

 

Easton, MA --- Junior Andrew Johnson (Thompson, CT) cleared 6-4.75 feet (1.95 meters) in the high jump to place fourth for All-New England honors as he helped lead the Worcester State men's outdoor track and field team to tie for 19th at the Open New England Championships hosted by Stonehill.

Southern Connecticut outpaced the field with 159 points as the Lancers scored 11 points to equal the 10th-best finish for a Division III institution.

Other individual All-New England standouts included sophomore Terrence Gibson (Rockland, MA) in the 110 meter hurdles who placed sixth (14.90) while classmate Duy Truong (Worcester, MA/Doherty) finished his day with sixth in the 100 meters (11.04).

Truong, senior Jon Parrella (Wilmington, MA), sophomore Stephen Gannon (Foxboro, MA) and second-year Matthew Alley (Milford, MA) placed 12th in the 4x100 relay for the fifth-highest time for a Division III school (42.64).

Parrella, along with freshman Marc George (Framingham, MA), sophomore Shaun Corum (Billerica, MA) and first-year Justin Trafford (Milton, MA) notched 17th for the seventh-best split for a Division III team in the 4x400 relay (3:21.80).

Senior Kerry Sabanty (Easton, MA), junior Connor O'Neill (Dudley, MA) and sophomore Patrick Bova (Princeton, MA) and fourth-year Tim Mazeika (Millbury, MA) clocked a solid time of 7:55.16 with 16th place for a new outdoor school record.

In the discus, freshman Al Mandragouras (Newbury, MA) rounded out the competators with 19th in the discus (119-4/36.37m).

Select Lancers will compete next week at the ECAC Division III Championships hosted by Springfield.

 




 

Friday's Recap

Easton, MA --- Sophomore Terrence Gibson (Rockland, MA) and classmate Duy Truong (Worcester, MA/Doherty) both claimed spots in the finals in their respective events to help lead the Worcester State men's track and field team at the Open New England Championships hosted by Stonehill.

Gibson had the fifth-fastest time in the 110 meter hurdles (14.84) and Truong was seventh in the 100 meters (11.00). Both try to finish higher for All-New England accolades tomorrow as Gibson missed his chance at the finals with ninth in the 200 (22.27).

In the 400 meter hurdles, senior Jon Parrella (Wilmington, MA) placed 12th (55.02) as the eighth highest Division III finisher in the field of 25 participants with a personal-best time as junior Kevin Maciel (Tewksbury, MA) added 21st (56.75).

Sophomore Stephen Gannon (Mansfield, MA) clocked a career time of 49.69 in the 400 with 21st place and freshman James Brodeur (Milford, MA) tossed 17th in the javelin (156-1/47.57m).
