Gibson Paces Men's Outdoor Track At ECAC Division III Championships

Springfield, MA --- Sophomore Terrence Gibson (Rockland, MA) clocked the fourth fastest time in the NCAA Division III for second place in the 110 meter hurdles to help lead the Worcester State men's outdoor track and field team to tie for 23rd at the ECAC Division III Championships.

Bates won the 2013 ECAC crown with 79 points while the Lancers tied for the eighth best score for a team from New England with 12 points.

Gibson, who broke his own school record in the event, finished with a split of 14.37 and he also was 14th in the 200 meters (22.17). For his efforts Gibson was named MASCAC Track Athlete of the Week.

Junior Andrew Johnson (Thompson, CT) cleared sixth in the high jump (1.96/6-5) to earn All-ECAC accolades for the third-consecutive season while sophomore Duy Truong (Worcester, MA/Doherty) was eighth in the 100 (10.89) for All-ECAC honors.

Johnson was also recognized as the MASCAC Field Athlete of the Week for his strong performance in the high jump.

The 4x100 meter relay team of Truong, senior Jon Parrella (Wilmington, MA) along with sophomore teamates Stephen Gannon (Mansfield, MA) and Matthew Alley (Milford, MA) was just off All-ECAC recognition with ninth overall (42.55).

The final 4x100 school-record split as a team that was set at the MASCAC/Alliance Championships last month of 42.10 was good for a top 50 time nationally - fourth among schools from New England.

Parrella wrapped up his day with 14th in the 400 meter hurdles (55.52) followed by Kevin Maciel (Tewksbury, MA) who was 28th (57.88). Gannon was also 23rd in the 400 (55.52) and sophomore Daniel Ross (Foxboro, MA) added 20th in the high jump (6-1.25/1.86m).

Gibson awaits word on his seed for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships on Monday, which will be held next week at Wisconsin-Lacrosse.
