Indianapolis, IN --- Sophomore Terrence Gibson (Rockland, MA) has qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships in the 110 meter hurdles. He will compete on on Friday, May 24 in the third lane of the second heat in the preliminary round at 6:25 PM EST at the University of Wisconsin Lacrosse.

The announcement came from the NCAA on Sunday evening as the top 20 times, distances, jumps and point totals along with the 16 best relay times during the course of the outdoor season are chosen for selection to the three-day national meet which starts on Thursday, May 23.

Gibson streaked to the fourth-best time in the nation with a split of 14.37, which he clocked this past weekend for second place at the ECAC Division III Championships in the hurdles. The time reset his own school record of 14.42, which was also second overall two weeks ago at the Division III New England Championships.

The second-year student-athlete looks to compete for a national title in the event that Gibson claimed during the indoor season when he lit up the track for the 60 meter hurdles crown at the NCAA Indoor Championships this past March at North Central for the ninth-fastest time in Division III history (8.04).

Among competators in the field, the other New England representatives include junior Adam Scalesse (Longview, WA) of Coast Guard and third-year Kevin Chu (Burlington, VT) of Middlebury. Gibson and Scalesse have been neck and neck all indoor and outdoor season as Scalesse comes into the outdoor championships with the fastest seeded time (14.16).

Gibson is the first Worcester State men's student-athlete to compete since former throwing standout Olaseni Fujah earned All-American accolades with his eighth-place toss in the hammer throw during the 2007 NCAA Outdoor Championships hosted by University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

The MASCAC contingent of NCAA Division III Indoor Championship competitors in the field include Bridgewater State junior Joshua Danner-Hicks (Haverhill, MA) in the triple jump and teammate senior Mike McPherson (Mansfield, MA) in the shot put along with fourth-year Zachary Descrochers (Dracut, MA) of Fitchburg State in the discus and senior Thomas Gauger (Billerica, MA) of Westfield State in the pole vault.

Should Gibson qualify for the finals in the 110 meter hurdles, the event will take place on Saturday, May 25 at 4:25 PM EST.
