Paquin, Sliwoski Pace Men's Track To Sixth At Division III New England Championships

 

Men's Outdoor Track Shoots Up To Fifth In USTFCCCA New England Regional Composite Index

 

Springfield, MA --- Senior Todd Paquin (Pelham, NH) sprinted to first place in the 100 meters (10.74) as he helped pace Worcester State to sixth overall at the Men's Division III New England Championships hosted by Springfield.

MIT won the team trophy with 159.83 points while the Blue and Gold were the third-highest finishing public institution at the meet with 38 points.

Paquin notched a top 25 time in Division III in the 100 as he became the 13th WSU individual champion at the outdoor meet. Former standout Stanley Egbor was the last Lancer to win the 100 in 2001 as he timed 10.72.

The 4x100 meter relay with Paquin as the second leg along with junior Duy Truong (Worcester, MA/Doherty) leading off, classmate Matthew Alley (Milford, MA) third and freshman Jared Barros (Taunton, MA) at anchor placed fourth for All-New England honors (42.50).

In addition to taking home an All-New England certificate for a personal-best performance in the 200 meters (22.16) with fourth place, Paquin was lauded as the MASCAC Track Athlete of the Week.

Junior Matthew Begley (E. Bridgewater, MA) tossed an All-New England throw for fifth in the javelin (165-11/50.57m). Begley wrapped up his afternoon with 13th in the shot put (43-10.75/13.38m) and 14th in the discus (127-1/38.74m).

Alley also claimed seventh in the finals of the 100 (11.13) for All-New England laurels as senior Ramses Rafael (Lawrence, MA) accomplished a similar feat with eighth in the 400 (50.02).

The 4x400 meter relay made up of Rafael, Barros, freshman Shane McKinley (Melrose, MA) and junior Stephen Gannon (Mansfield, MA) placed 11th with a time of 3:23.95 to qualify for the ECAC Division III Championships in two weeks.

Barros clocked 12th in the 100 (11.23) and 17th in the 200 (22.76) while Truong was 10th in the 110 meter hurdles (15.53) and 23rd in the 100 (11.40).

Gannon had the 15th-best time in the 400 (51.01) as freshman Charles Newman (Westfield, MA) crossed the line 19th in the 100 (11.33) and 22nd in the 200 (23.14). Junior David Germain (Malden, MA) added 15th in the 110 meter hurdles (16.15) and he cleared 9th in the high jump (6-4/1.93m).

First-year Sam Weeks (Methuen, MA) staked 11th in the shot put (44-2.50/13.47m) as senior Andrew Johnson (Thompson, CT) and junior Dan Ross (Foxboro, MA) placed 10th () and 12th, respectively, in the high jump (6-4/1.93m).

Freshman Franklin Dallas (New London, CT) rounded out the competators with 24th in the 200 (23.31).

Select members of the Worcester State men's squad will compete at next week's Open New England Championships hosted by Westfield State.

From Friday: "Sliwoski Establishes New School Decathlon Record At Division III New England Championships"

 

Springfield, MA --- Junior Jason Sliwoski (Leicester, MA) was the runner-up in the decathlon with a school record 6,246 points as he helped pace Worcester State on the second day of the Men's Division III New England Championships hosted by Springfield College.

Sliwoski, who placed third last season, captured All-New England accolades for the third consecutive year in the event as he won the discus (120-9/36.80m), the pole vault (13-3.50/4.05m) and placed third in the 110 meter hurdles (16.23) earlier this afternoon.

He was just 226 points off sophomore Adrian Samsel (Whippany, NJ) of MIT who won the event.

Sliwoski is currently 21st on the NCAA Division III National list as of this evening and he beat out the old mark that he set last season at the Holy Cross Heptathlon (6,157 points).

Junior Duy Truong (Worcester, MA/Doherty) also claimed All-New England honors for the third straight season with sixth in the long jump (22-3.75/6.80m)

 

 


 

From Thursday: "Sliwoski Notches Third On Opening Day Of Division III New England Championships"

 

Springfield, MA -- Junior Jason Sliwoski (Leicester, MA) tallied 3,272 points on the opening day of the Division III New England decathlon this afternoon at Springfield College.

In a field that included 11 entrants, Sliwoski won the shot put (39-11.50/12.16m), was the runner-up in the long jump (20-11.75/6.39m) and third in the 100 meters (11.68). He also was fifth in the high jump (5-8.75/1.75m).

He enters the final day of the competition tomorrow just 285 points off of sophomore Adrian Samsel (Whippany, NJ) of MIT who sits atop the leaderboard.

Sliwoski looks to build on his fifth-place finish from last season at the Division III New England Championships.
