Men's Outdoor Track Ties For 20th At New England Championships

 

Gibson Selected MASCAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week

 

Cambridge, MA --- Senior Terrence Gibson (Rockland, MA) captured the 110 meter hurdles title with a school-record time of 14.23 to help lead Worcester State to tie for 20th at the New England Championships this afternoon at MIT.

With 12 team points, the Lancers tied for 20th with UMass Amherst and had the eighth highest point total for a Division III institution. It marked the third consecutive year the Blue and Gold were among the top 20 in the annual outdoor meet featuring athlets from Division I, II and III schools.

Gibson reset his previous mark that he set last season (14.25) as the runner-up at the New England Championships at Westfield State. He beat out six other Division I student-athletes for the fifth individual New England outdoor crown in program history with the second fastest split in Division III this year.

Sophomore Jared Barros (Taunton, MA), who had the fourth-best time in the trials yesterday at 21.89, ended his day placing seventh in the 200 (22.05).

In the field, sophomore Sam Weeks (Methuen, MA) landed 12th in the discus (139-2/42.41 meters) and 14th in the shot put (46-10.25/14.28m).

Gibson was also 24th in the 200 (22.63), senior Stephen Gannon (Mansfield, MA) notched 29th in the 400 (51.29) and freshman Mamudu Dennis (Worcester, MA/Holy Name) recorded 33rd in the 100.

The 4x400 meter relay of Barros at lead-off, freshman Angel Martinez (Lawrence, MA), senior Jason Sliwoski (Leicester, MA) third and Gannon was a few seconds shy of the school record (3:21.10) in 18th (8th in Divsion III).

The 4x800 team of sophomore Marc George (Framingham, MA/Marion), freshman Marquis Johnson (W. Hartford, MA), senior Adam Pepin (Paxton, MA) and freshman Patrick Scheeler (Wakefield, MA) added 8:05.22 in 22nd place.
