Fitchburg, MA --- Freshman teammates Tim
Mazeika (Millbury, MA) and Alex Droby
(Uxbridge, MA) took fifth (26:40.4) and sixth (26:43.5),
respectively, for the men while first-year Brittany
Grueter (Foxboro, MA) highlighted three top finishes for
the women as both cross country teams placed third at the Jim
Sheehan Invitational hosted by Fitchburg State on Friday
afternoon.
Sophomore Justin Hunt (Rutland, MA) placed 16th
(28.24.1) to help pace the men while senior Norman
Everett (W. Bridgewater, MA) and freshman Jimmy Walker
(Tyngsboro, MA) added 20th (28.52.4) and 22nd (29.18.4),
respectively.
As for the women, Grueter impressed in fourth with a time of
22:32.3 while sophomore Meg Plant (Franklin, MA)
crossed the line in fifth (22:34.3). Freshman Erin
Donohue (Saugus, MA) rounded out the top 10 for the
Lancers with seventh place (22:43.1). Sophomore Molly
Gates (Worcester, MA), rookie Kristina
Richard (Peabody, MA) and senior Adrienne
Fisher (Wilmington, MA) also registered finishes of 15th
(24.25.1), 16th (24.25.8) and 21st (26.38.4), respectively.
On the men’s side Eastern Connecticut took the top spot with
31 points while Fitchburg State wasn’t far behind with 37
points while WSC notched 68 points and Anna Maria tallied fourth
(128). There were 35 competitor’s overall representing the
four institutions.
For the women, the Warriors tallied 31 points to record first
while the Falcons (45 points) edged out the Lancers for second (47
points) and the AMCATS placed fourth with 95 points. There were
also 32 entrants as well.
The men’s and women’s cross country teams will head to
a much faster track next week as they head to North Dartmouth for
the UMass Dartmouth Invitational.
