Men's Cross Country Places Fifth At MASCAC Championships

Worcester, MA --- First-year Neil Reilly (Oxford, MA) placed 20th with a time of 28:09 to help lead the Worcester State men's cross country team to a fifth place finish at the MASCAC Championships. Reilly's time was the fourth-highest for a freshman finisher on the 8k Stanley Park course hosted by Westfield State.

Nine of the 12 competitors posted personal-best times as they were also led by freshman Pat Daley (Millbury, MA) notched 27th as he timed 28:34 while sophomore Dan Anderson (Sutton, MA) added 32nd (29:01) followed by classmate Tim Mazeika (Millbury, MA) who placed 35th (29:06).

The top seven was rounded out by second-year Greg Babiec (Worcester, MA/Doherty), teammate Kerry Sabanty (Stoughton, MA) and first-year Dan Morrissey (Dudley, MA) who each finished in 48th (29:49), 59th (30:28) and 60th (30:54), respectively.

Bridgewater State captured their first title since 2001 with 45 team points followed by Westfield State (52), Fitchburg State (75), the Massachusetts Maritime Academy (106) and the Lancers total of 131 points.

Worcester State and the other seven MASCAC schools will compete again next week at Moore State Park in nearby Paxton at the New England Alliance Championships.
