Framingham, MA — The Framingham State College softball
team picked up two key Massachusetts State College Athletic
Conference (MASCAC) victories today at Farley Field in Framingham
as they swept the Worcester State Lancers winning both games in six
innings by the identical score of 8-0. With the win, the Rams
improve to 10-24 on the season and 7-3 in the MASCAC and clinched a
spot in the conference’s post season tournament, while the
Lancers fall to 4-6 in the MASCAC and 8-19-1 overall.
Senior Katelyn Pacheco (Acushnet, MA) picked up the win in game one
as she went six shutout innings allowing only two hits and three
walks while striking out five. In game two, freshman Alysia
Morrissette (Ware, MA) and sophomore Andrea DiTerlizzi (Shrewsbury,
MA) combined for the shutout. Morrissette started and went three
innings allowing only one hit while walking two. DiTerlizzi closed
out the game also going three innings and allowing only two
hits.
The Rams scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to break a
scoreless tie in game one. Senior Colleen Clancy (Lynn, MA) walked,
advanced to second on a ground out and moved to third on freshman
Katie Donovan’s (Holden, MA) single. Clancy came around to
score the first run as she scampered home on a pass ball and pinch
runner Angela DiSanto (Easthampton, MA) scored the second on
freshman Alyssa Shea’s (Lakeville, MA) RBI single.
The Rams offense erupted for six runs in the sixth to finish the
game. Senior Liz Ranton (Milton, MA) hit an RBI double to left then
came around to score on freshman shortstop Christy Ulak’s
(Rehoboth, MA) RBI single. DiTerlizzi drove in Ulak with a single
and Donovan ended the game with a two RBI triple to center that put
the Rams ahead 8-0.
In game two, the Rams took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on an
RBI double from senior Rachel Timmons (Malden, MA) and an RBI
single from classmate Sarah Douillette (Lakeville, MA). The Rams
added six more in the bottom of the sixth to end the game early.
Pacheco and sophomore outfielder Kasey Phipps (Westford, MA) each
doubled home two runs and Timmons drove in a run with an RBI ground
out.
Sophomore Michaella Mahoney (Shrewsbury, MA)
took the loss in the circle in game one to even out her record to
8-8 while junior Cathy Costopoulos (Tyngsboro, MA)
was tagged for the setback in the second game.
Worcester State will play a twinbill at Becker tomorrow at 3 PM
while the Rams return to action on Thursday as they travel to
Lesley College for a double header beginning at 4.
