Game Two --- Box Score

Fort Myers, FL --- Worcester State freshman Melissa Beaudry (Worcester, MA/St. Peter-Marian) earned her first collegiate victory in a 4-3 triumph against Lasell before dropping a 1-0 setback to Wheaton this morning. Senior Michaella Mahoney (Shrewsbury, MA) was the tough-luck loser in their loss to the Lyons.

Beaudry scattered nine hits and allowed two earned runs in the triumph against the Lasers (1-5).

The Lancers (3-3) were also paced by sophomores Jamie Jacobs (Billerica, MA) and Ashley Howe (Wichendon, MA) along with freshman Alex Kerr (Franklin, MA) who each contributed two hits apiece. Jacobs scored a pair of runs, Howe crossed the place one while adding two RBIs and Kerr chipped in with one RBI.

In the second game against Wheaton (7-1), WSC had a frustrating day at the plate as they stranded seven runners on base.

Sophomore Erica Cordio (Leominster, MA) started off the game with a walk and moved to second on a wild pitch. Cordio got to third as first-year Kate Souder (Milford, MA) got on base with a base hit to left and then she moved into scoring position with a stolen base. Lyons freshman starter Andrea Bagley (Foxboro, MA) though would buckle down and get out of the jam with three consecutive strikeouts to end the first.

The Blue and Gold also had runners on second and third with no outs in the fourth, but could not push a run across junior reliever Lesley Warn (Portland, ME) induced a ground out and set down the last two batters with two punchouts looking to end the inning.

Mahoney was outstanding as she retired 17 of the first 18 batters she faced which included 12 straight from the third to the sixth frames. Wheaton finally got to Mahoney in the seventh as senior Marissa Hobocan (Shelton, CT) led off the inning with a single to left. With two out in the inning, cleanup hitter Nicole DeRosa (Greenwhich, CT) hammered a walk-off double to left field to end the game.

Mahoney gave up one run on three hits with four strikeouts and no walks. Bagley and Warn combined on the three hit shutout with 10 strikeouts and four walks.

Worcester State will take St. Paticks day off and play on Thursday against Smith at 9 AM and Fredonia State at 11.
