Softball Ends Florida Trip With Win Over Smith, Setback To SUNY Brockport

Fort Meyers, FL --- Behind a solid outing by sophomore Melissa Beaudry (Worcester, MA/St. Peter-Marian) in a 13-2 triumph over Smith and a tough 3-0 setback to SUNY Brockport, Worcester State drew a split on the final day of their annual trek to Florida.

Freshman Michelle Serrentino (Hudson, MA) propelled the Lancer offense with a first-inning two-out grand slam while Beaudry scattered seven hits in a six inning complete game outing.

As a team the Blue and Gold hammered 10 base knocks.

In their loss to SUNY Brockport, the Lancers could not find an answer for senior Stephanie Geer (Binghampton, NY) who went the distance with a three-hitter. Geer tallied 13 strikeouts for the Golden Eagles.

Three pitchers were in the circle for WSU as sophomore Hannah Everson (Methuen, MA) pitched the first three innings allowing two runs, junior Marcy Rumrill (Orange, MA) hurled two innings allowing a solo home run before senior Michaella Mahoney (Shrewsbury, MA) came into the game with a perfect sixth.

Worcester State (7-3) opens their northern schedule with a road doubleheader next Saturday against Elms starting at 12 PM.
