Buzzards Bay, MA --- Senior Michaella Mahoney has been selected this week's MASCAC Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for a standout performance in a sweep of Elms College this past weekend.
For Mahoney this is her second-straight weekly honor and fifth time in her career she has earned the distinction in the circle.
Mahoney, hails from Shrewsbury, MA, started off the twinbill going the distance in a six-hit 5-0 shutout of the Blazers with eight strikeouts before she finished the doubleheader batting .667 (4-for-6) with a double and four RBIs to two with a 9-2 victory.
Mahoney is currently 4-0 in five appearances with a 0.64 earned run average in 28 innings. She has fanned 28 and yielded just five walks. Mahoney, who leads the MASCAC in ERA, also tops in opponents batting average with a .158 clip (16-for-101). Only one of 16 base-knocks that she has allowed has gone for extra bases.
Mahoney is also batting .444 (12-for-27) with two doubles, one homer and 13 runs driven in. She currently is tied for the lead in RBIs in the conference standings.
The Lancers will play Rhode Island College in a doubleheader later this evening before they take on Westfield State on Saturday in a twinbill to open up MASCAC play.
