Everson Helps Pace Softball In Split With UMD, St. Olaf

Fort Myers, FL --- Junior right hander Hannah Everson (Methuen, MA) tossed a five inning one-hitter in an 8-0 triumph over UMass Dartmouth before Worcester State was defeated 11-3 in five innings against St. Olaf on the third day of their annual spring training Florida Trip.

Everson was masterful as she would fan eight– including six of her first nine batters and the side in the opening frame. Her lone hit was a clean single to left to Corsair sophomore Emily Pontes (Tewksbury, MA) in the bottom of the fourth. Everson (1-2) did not allow a walk.

The Lancers (2-4) would take over a 6-0 advantage over the contests first two innings. Junior Alex Kerr (Franklin, MA) laced a two-run double in the first while seniors Erica Cordio (Leominster, MA) and Ashley Howe (Winchendon, MA) and junior Aimee Lamoureux (E. Brookfield, MA) all drove in runs in the second.

After putting runners on in the third and fourth, Worcester State ended the game in the fifth on a two-run single by freshman Kaitlyn Storro (Leominster, MA).

UMass Dartmouth freshman righthander Olivia Kenyon (Canton, MA) was dealt the setback as she lasted just two innings allowing six earned runs on five hits to go along with two strikeouts and a walk.

In the nightcap, St. Olaf (5-2) opened up the contest with the early 2-0 advantage. Junior Jessica Wilson (Burnsville, MN) and classmate Julie Fergus (Silverdale, WA) both plated runs in the top of the first.

Worcester State promptly responded and cut into the lead on an RBI single by Kerr in the bottom of the inning.

The Lions answered with a pair in the top of the second for the 4-1 edge. Freshman Amy Jeppesen (Pleasant Dale, NB) hit a run-producing single and senior Esti Zimmerman (Eden Prarie, MN) crossed home plate on a fielding error by the shortstop.

In the bottom of the third, Worcester State inched to within a run when two crossed the plate. Howe came around to score on an errant throw following a double steal and Kerr drove in the second on a single.

St. Olaf put the game out of reach in the top of the fourth with a five-run frame as they were highlighted with a pair of two-run singles by third-year Maggie Scholer (Norwalk, IA) and sophomore Christiana Miller (White Bear Lake, MN).

Wilson also blasted a two-run homer to left field for the 11-3 advantage in the fifth.

Sophomore righty Jessica Green (Scottsdale, AZ) earned the win in the circle for the Lions. Green (3-1) would give up three runs (two earned) on eight hits while fanning five and walking one.

Second-year righthander Kelly Winter (Attleboro, MA) was tagged for the defeat as her record drops to 0-2 on the season. Winter went 4 1/3 innings allowing 11 runs (10 earned) on 14 hits as she would record a trio of punchouts and walk no one.

The Lancers will take a day off before playing on Wednesday at Fort Myers. They take on Wisconsin Oshkosh at 9 AM and Hendrix at 11 AM.
