MASCAC Weekly Softball Release

Buzzards Bay, MA --- Worcester State senior Erica Cordio (Leominster, MA) and junior Hannah Everson (Methuen, MA) have both been lauded by the MASCAC for their efforts in helping lead the Lancers to a 4-2 week.

Cordio, who was tabbed as the MASCAC Player of the Week, batted .429 with nine RBIs and 10 runs scored as she played flawless defense at shortstop and slugged .905 with 19 total bases. After being held to just one hit in seven at-bats in a pair of setbacks to WPI, she helped lead the charge in four straight wins going on a tear with an 8-for-14 performance at the plate.

Cordio would record three base knocks – including a double and a triple – with three runs and three RBIs in a 3-1 and 14-1 sweep of Nichols. She then ended the week with six hits (two doubles, a three-bagger and a home run) with six plated runs and six trips to home plate in a pair of 10-1 and 16-1 wins over MCLA.

Cordio is currently fourth on the team in batting (.338) while she leads the team in runs (24), RBIs (19), total bases (43), on base percentage (.418) and slugging (.538). As of the latest MASCAC statistical standings, Cordio is tied for first in the conference in runs, tied for third in runs driven in, seventh in total bases and ninth in OBP.

With 85 runs scored in her three-year career as a Lancer, Cordio moved into the top three all-time in the category.

Everson has been named the Co-MASCAC Pitcher of the Week as she shares the honor with Westfield State senior Madeline Tomich (Alford, MA).

Everson recorded 25 strikeouts in 25 innings including 10 in a 16-1 two-hitter over MCLA while she also finished with eight punch outs in a 3-1 triumph over Nichols.  Everson also batted .400 in the last week as she extended her hitting streak to seven games with three RBIs and three runs.

This season Everson has posted a 7-5 mark overall with a 3.43 earned run average including 76 strikeouts in 81.1 innings. She is tied for third in the MASCAC in complete games (12), tied for fourth in wins and sixth in innings.

Everson has helped the Lancers post the fourth-best earned run average in the conference with a 3.21 ERA.

Worcester State will play Framingham State in a twinbill at Rockwood Park on Monday (12 PM) before they head to Western Connecticut for a doubleheader on Thursday at 5 o'clock. WSU entertains first-place Bridgewater State on Saturday in a pair of key MASCAC games at noon.
